As social distancing becomes the new norm, artists around the world are exploring ways to engage their audiences through virtual special events and live streaming platforms. If you’ve already reached the end of Netflix and are bored of 7-minute Quibi episodes, we’ve got you covered. Check out our list of movies and performances that will help to fight boredom and keep you entertained while staying home. Hopefully, these can bring a little bit of joy into your daily life!

What started with a small group of individuals with a passion for art has now become a virtual community of people from all levels of creativity. Beyond a cool Instagram feed, Cool Objects hosts virtual drawing events to build, connect and express your artistic side with others. They’re a creative community, based in Toronto built from interactive creative workshops.

Feeling the urge to party? Club Quarantine has got you covered. These Toronto artists wanted to create a safe space for the queer community and are hosting online dance parties featuring live DJ and artists performances every single day of the week. For the first time ever, the craziest parties are just a Zoom call away.

Free Movie of the Week (Free)

Oh You Pretty Thing is a webshop based in Brooklyn, New York that features artwork, films, books and photographs all for free. Filmmaker Gary Hustwit is streaming his documentaries free worldwide during the global crisis. Check back each Tuesday for another film.

The Social Distancing Festival (Free)

This online artist’s community is made to celebrate and showcase the work of the many artists around the world who have been affected by social distancing rules to curve the spread of COVID-19. A group of passionate individuals decided to create this virtual platform to celebrate and support the incredible work of artists during this pandemic.

Arts in Isolation (Free)

Arts Etobicoke recently launched a program called “Arts In Isolation” to provide free online content including a digital art gallery, craft classes, and professional development workshops.

Social Distance Gallery | @socialdistancegallery (Free)

Benjamin Cook, a painter from Ohio, recently started an instagram page dedicated to digitally exhibiting BFA and MFA thesis shows that would have otherwise been cancelled by schools across North America. This account primarily focuses on helping young artists receive exposure during this pandemic. 

Memory (Free)

Memory offers a collection of videos made by artists showcasing their talent and love for film. These movies bring out creativity at a unique platform. Check out their Instagram @memory.is
